BankDetective compares personal current accounts and banking apps available in the UK. We publish each provider’s fees, terms and offers as set out in its own documents, so you can compare them without opening twenty browser tabs.
What we do
We read each provider’s product pages, fee information document and terms. We note the date of each check. When a provider does not publish a figure, we say so instead of filling the gap with an estimate.
Each profile and comparison page is reviewed when the provider changes its terms. The date of the last update is shown on the page.
What we do not do
We are not a bank, a payment institution or an adviser. We do not open accounts, hold money or give personal recommendations. BankDetective publishes information, not financial products.
The decision to open an account is yours. If you go ahead, you apply on the provider’s own website, on its terms, and the provider is responsible for the application.
How we are paid
The site is free to use. Some of the providers we feature pay us a commission when a reader opens an account through one of our links. The commission does not change the price you pay.
Providers on our comparison pages are ordered according to the criteria stated on each page: fees, requirements for fee-free use, whether a card is included, cash withdrawals and transfers. A provider that does not pay us is treated in the same way as one that does.
Links that earn us a commission are affiliate links. We say so on the page where they appear, and in our terms of use.
Where our data comes from
We use only three types of source:
- each provider’s official documents: product pages, Fee Information Document, terms and conditions;
- public registers: the Financial Services Register of the Financial Conduct Authority, and the information published by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme;
- customer reviews published on app stores and review platforms, quoted as such.
We do not copy figures from other comparison sites.
Who is behind the site
BankDetective is published by EOSSEO SAS, a French company incorporated in 2016 and registered in Grenoble. Its full details are in the legal notice.
If you find an error
A fee that is no longer correct, an offer that has ended, a link that does not lead to the right page: write to us from the contact page. We correct errors as soon as we have checked them against the official source. Requests from providers to correct information about their own products are handled first.
